Under-exposed and Unhappy!

Little man was not happy this evening… I had just taken some pics off my camera and was trying to put it back in the bag and he was not having my non-attentive state to his needs.

I didn’t want to miss his adorable little pouty face, so I started snapping away. I realized I underexposed it, but I think the grain flows with the mood of the shot.

After that I went ahead and did the forbidden and flipped the setting over to auto so I wouldn’t miss these crazy faces he was giving me. The lovely little onboard flash made these next few shots a little bright, but nonetheless, they’re still cute!

So, can you tell whose lips he got? When he’s upset, he blows raspberries.

Then he decided to do this… I guess I should get used to seeing this face.

He must have realized I thought it was funny because he kept doing it.

Finally… Some smiles!

Sisters

Here are two options for Miss S and Miss K’s mom to choose from for the design she wanted created.

Let me know if you’d like any changes! Both of these are created as 5×7’s.

Thank you so much!!! The first one is cute but I really love #2. They are perfect & just what I had in mind. Guess, I will need at least 25 to start with.

I agree… I think if we were printing something large, like 11×14 or 16×20, the first would be great, but for a 5×7, the 2nd one is better.

The second one really grabs the eye, I almost passed up the first one because of it. I can really see the first option in one of those black frames from Target that is not very tall but wide and has the matte with but outs for each picture.

Happy 1st Birthday to Miss ‘M’!!

Earlier this week I was able to photograph Miss ‘M’ and her two older brothers. The 3 of them are pretty close in age to my three, except they are boy, boy, then girl! Mom had seen my family session that we did at the little white house and wanted to try some there for the entire crew at first. Then we broke away to do some of Princess ‘M’. Last, I got the opportunity to do some first birthday cake outdoors pictures. I had seen it done on a fellow photographer’s blog and mom was all for it. Miss ‘M’ wasn’t so sure though! She wasn’t too crazy about being dirty. Oh and I can’t forget the pics I took of the boys while Miss ‘M’ was getting cleaned up.

Thanks again for the opportunity! I’ll be in contact when your proofs are ready for viewing.

Snappin’ Away…

Yep, here are just some snaps I’ve taken the last week or so… Sometimes I don’t want to piddle around with my settings (because it’s just a snapshot opportunity) so I just stick my camera in auto and snap a few. So here’s just a little bit of what we’ve been doing lately!

Splash Park… We are loving the Splash Park. Anyone with more than one child can appreciate a place like this… A lot of times I take the kids of here mid-week by myself and I don’t have to be on pins and needles worried that I’m going to lose track of one of them. Caleb even loves it! He usually hangs in his stroller for a little bit and then I let him crawl around. No pics of him crawling around though since I have to be right by him and don’t want the trusty camera getting wet! These actually are taken in manual mode though!

Next, one day we rode with my mom and met my aunt and her little girl at the mall. The kids were chomping at the bit all day to play, so we finally resorted to letting them play. A couple of these pics are bad! Another reason I can’t stand auto… Doesn’t the camera know when there is too much sun to dial it down more? Oh well… The kids are a little bright in these but it’s all in fun!

Then we’ve got 4th of July. I didn’t really take any pics on the 4th until I realized that Haidyn was doing the sparklers in the same dress I have Maddie doing them in at the same age. So I had to snap a few. It was pitch black, but the little pop-up flash did it’s job that night. Usually I’m hating that thing, but it was necessary!

FOUND IT… Here is the shot of Maddie I was talking about… Taken with my old P&S, but nonetheless… Maddie in the same dress at 3.5 playing with a sparkler for the first time! Would you believe that at 6.5 she was too scared to do one?!

Last, just a snap at how I found the boy the other day. Man, oh man! He’s also learning to climb. Yes, you read that right! CLIMB! No pics to document it yet, but whenever he sees something small enough to get on, he will climb up on it. I am not ready for this BOY STUFF!

This summer has definitely been a busy one! I thought we’d be twiddling our thumbs trying to stay busy, but I’m actually looking forward to down time. Whenever that will be!

I LOVE the picture of Maddie holding the sparkler!!

  2. Amy

Looks like fun. So nice to be able to get out and do fun stuff!

  3. Les & Kimberly

The pictures are great – we should get together one evening or weekend with my niece (3 yrs) and nephew (7 yrs) when they get back. They’ll be here for 5 weeks starting this Sunday (they fly in with my parents then). They love the water thing – we have one in Allen that is really nice with a HUGE playground!!

  4. The Farns

I love the sparkler pictures. I tried to get some, but man it is tough to sort out the lighting issues between the sun going down and the light of the sparkler. You did fantastic.

  5. Two Sisters

Cute Pics! I love the ones of the girls in the same outfit, holding a sparkler. AC is a climber, too. Yesterday she climbing to the top of the stairs in a matter of seconds…without me knowing. Guess I need to invest in a couple of gates:).

HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

So you can probably see I’m running a special for the month of July! I’m excited about this special. There will be a limited amount of sessions available, so jump on the opportunity soon! But in the meantime, tell your friends, family, strangers, etc.

I’m looking forward to this because there are several types of sessions I’m wanting to capture. As always I love doing newborns! Then there are the growing belly pictures that I need more of for my portfolio. Toddlers are always fun… The list goes on and on…

However, I’m wanting some different sessions… Stuff I haven’t done before, so if you’re interested contact me. Some of my ideas include: urban family shoot in a funky location (let me know if you’ve seen some cool places), a little funk at an old barn, maybe even some sass at a grainery. Just something out of the ordinary.

BUT… If you like my stuff the way it is and you want a session, still call or email me to schedule it. I definitely don’t mind sticking to my territory, these are just some ideas if you’re interested!

Can’t wait to hear from you!

Bigger

So I’ve been working on trying to make my blog posts and images larger… I’ve read that you can load your pics to an outside source and then copy the HTML code into your post. It kind of stinks because it adds a step to my blogging, but I’m really loving all these blogs where the pictures are BIG! So I’m going to try it…

Hope this works…

ETA… It worked! Pretty neat, huh? Now, I’m going to try to figure out how to do it without using a 3rd party. I’ve heard that it’s possible, but I haven’t quite figured it out! Figured out leaving the 3rd party out too! Woo-hoo!

Wow…what a great shot. I love the colors. The use of shadow is really great too.

  2. Jill Cornelius

Thank you… We were at the splash park (which is the reflection in his eyes) and then he was sitting in his stroller with the canopy down. He’s a little red though because he was so hot in there.

  3. Kimberly

The blue in his eyes is so pretty! It reminds me of something, but I can’t think of what off hand. hmmm????

A Collage for Mr. E’s Room **UPDATED** Scroll down for revisions!

Here is a collage I created for Mr. E’s room… His mom told me that she thought these images would make a cute collage for his room, so once she described his room to me, I whipped this up.

What do you think? Should I make any changes? How about the background color? Which one do you prefer?

Oh and this is sized as a 16×20, but can also be printed as an 8×10. It will be mounted on 2mm styrene and coated for protection. Then you can frame it or just use a plate rack or easel for displaying it!

Okay… After some of the comments confirming that this collage ‘might need something’, I added a little border and feature that makes the images look even more vintage… It’s called TTV – ‘through the viewfinder’. It’s supposed to give it that look of being taken with an old camera. WDYT??

  1. Kimberly

I love the red one the best!

  2. Amy

my question would first be to them, what are the colors of the walls in the child’s room?

But without knowing that, my first pick would probably be the khaki color background.

  3. ...

Actually, all 3 colors are in his room. 😉

Khaki was my favorite too! Kev liked it with a little more color though…

  4. The Farns

All the pictures are not big enough to see all the details, but what a great idea. I love the starts on it. I think it really depends on the room colors. The stars pop out better on the khaki one, but the whole project doesn’t pop as much without color.

  5. Julie Syvrud

My vote is for the red background. 2nd place would be tan background. However, I almost think the tan doesn’t make the pictures stand out enough from the background. Just my 2 cents! You may’ve already tried this, but how about some type of inner our outer glow on each photo box to highlight it a little more? Sometimes that helps. Cute cute!

The Pantry…

Remember my post not too long ago about the boy that wasn’t quite 10 months yet? Well, I finally had time to edit some proof of the destruction he creates in our house! I’d taken these pics about a month ago, but have been quite busy with client photos and have just now gotten around to editing them.

So my kids have a bad habit of leaving the pantry open. Which leads to Caleb exploring and pulling everything off the shelf. No biggie… keeps him busy while I do dishes, clean, etc., even grab the camera for pics!

Well, I must have left the kitchen to go to the other room for some reason and when I came back, I found this! Eating chips… Mind you, we didn’t start him on solids and it was baby food at that until 6 months. I don’t think chips are first foods approved!

Then about a week later, same scenario… Someone left pantry open, I allowed him to play because it keeps him busy so I can do things, I head to the other room to do something and come back to this… Lucky Charms. Lucky for him, huh?! At least these are a little ‘safer’ than chips!

I thought this pic was funny… My pantry after Caleb…

Caleb after Lucky Charms! ~~Priceless~~

I have to say, this little boy is definitely keeping me on my toes! I cannot fathom what our days will be like once he’s walking. If you think about it, go ahead and start praying for me now!

  3. The Farns

The colors are amazing…that is one happy boy.

  4. Kim Lignell

That is too cute!!! haha… Looks like you got yourself a 100% boy on your hands!!! Welcome to my world!

Just a swingin’…

About a month or so ago we bought Caleb a swing… Well, Kevin wasn’t home yet, so I just rigged it up so he could try it out until daddy got home. He was loving it! This is one of the many ways we pass the time waiting for him to come home for the day.

So now, Kevin has taken down the red see saw looking swing thing so that all 3 kids can swing together. They love it and we do it quite often! Now if we can just get some grass growing in the backyard we’d be good to go!

I love pictures 2, 4, and 7 of the kids!!!! I numbered them myself from the top……LOL

I put on Amy’s blog that I had put one of the pictures that you took of them in a frame and now I just have to get everyone else updated too……hint hint!! 😉

Your work is beautiful – even the shots that aren’t with touch-ups or special flashes (don’t know the correct terminology)!

  2. Jill Cornelius

LOL! I told Amy that when I place my next client order, I’m going to add some family pics into the mix for the extended family… So it’s coming!

Thank you for the compliments! I’m really loving getting to do these things I’ve always wanted to do (pics and staying home with my kids)! I truly feel blessed these days.

  3. Amy

Hey Jill! I think Kim wants an updated picture!! HA!!!

The pics are cute. And I SO know what you mean about finding things to do to pass the time before the hubby/daddy gets home. I get so bored here sometimes. I can’t get out much ya know…

  4. The Farns

You are really making me feel like a slacker. I need to get on my blogging. How in the world do you get such great color?

  5. Jill Cornelius

I’ve been on a roll lately, huh?! I’m just caught up with my client sessions (waiting on orders), so I had time to go through old personal photos!

Color… Hmmm… Honestly, all I do is run a USM, sometimes a little action to add some sunlight to the pics if they’re underexposed, maybe a contrast boost, but that’s about it!

    Thanks as usual!

The one of Haidyn (first one )looking over her shoulder is so sweet!
