Almost a goner…

I was re-editing some images that a client wanted to re-order and was trying to ‘save’ this image. Originally I underexposed it… That day we had massive clouds, then the sun would peek out, then back in again. I’d have all my settings ready for that particular situation and then it would change on me. And then trying to capture those smiling moments with toddlers, well… you snap when you can!

I ran across this neat little action a while back that basically adds ‘sun’ to your photograph. I ran it, but then toned it down because it was a little too harsh for this image and voila… No more underexposed image! Aren’t his eyes gorgeous?


And what the heck… While I’m sharing some of my editing secrets, I might as well show you what we started with… I’m a little embarrassed to show you the before and normally had his expression not been so great, this would have been a trashed image because of the exposure.
Pretty amazing, huh?!

Nope, actually just 3! Yesterday, I had the opportunity to photograph the triplets. They are now 4 months old and getting cuter by the day!

Here are some of my favorites from the day!







I’ve got lots more to edit… I haven’t even looked at their individual shots, but I’ve got to place a couple of orders for other sessions, edit a maternity, and then come back to this session.

Oh and in case anyone is wondering about the title to this post… It’s obviously an inside joke that my wonderful husband started yesterday during our session. Just think Sesame Street and maybe we’ll all have it stuck in our head!

Family Portraits

I finally had a chance to go through some of the photos that my sister’s boyfriend took of our family on Mother’s Day to pick some of my favorites. As I’ve mentioned before, we desperately need updated pictures for our frames. Poor Caleb doesn’t exist on our walls and Haidyn is still a baby in most of them!


I think I need to remove a little orange from this picture… The orange was obviously reflecting onto our faces.

We loved this pose that some of our friends did, so Kevin thought we should try to duplicate it for our family!

We actually did this pose with Maddie several years ago and thought we’d do it again.

A little too much sun, but I still love it! I’ll have to play with it more in PS.



So which one is your favorite family picture? Siblings picture?

Well, I better call it a night… I’m photographing the triplets tomorrow and I’m sure I’m going to need my rest! Fingers crossed Caleb sleeps all night.

    Those turned out really cute! I loved the color combo you did. I think my fav is… family: the one with the kids sitting on the fence; kids: the one with the girl’s legs crossed, Maddie looking straight and leaning in… I think it is the 2nd kid’s pic. How do you take some of the orange out??

    Yeay! Caleb slept through the night! He knew his Momma needed a break with the triplets coming for pics. ha ha

Amateur Photographer

I think all photographers would find this quote quite humorous…

An amateur photographer was invited to dinner with friends, and he took along a few pictures to show to them. The hostess looked at the photos and commented, “These are very good! You must have a good camera.”

The photographer didn’t make any comment, but as he was leaving to go home, he said, “That was a really delicious meal! You must have some very good pots.”

I smile every time I read that!

ETA… Some of my favorite images were from my old P&S camera. And most people probably wouldn’t be able to pick those out from the rest that were taken with my current camera!

Baby Brother…

Oh how I love this image… Just Baby Brother wasn’t really crazy about the grass. It was also naptime. We did get some smiling pictures of him later, but this image of the girls is so precious. I may still have to frame it! Just for the memory…

Maybe I can clone his smiling face out of another picture… Hmmm… have to work on that!

Mother’s Day… My Day Off!

Yesterday was a wonderful Mother’s Day. We decided to meet at the park with family members (from both sides) that were available for a no stress day at the park. Each family picked up something to eat on the way and then we just hung out. The weather turned out to be quite nice after the chilly breeze lessened.

As you can see from the title though, this was my day off… My sister’s boyfriend enjoys taking pictures as much as I do (if not more!) and he picked up my camera and documented the day for us. How nice was that? As a mom sometimes I get caught in the moment doing motherly things and don’t get to catch all the cute things kids tend to do, so it was nice to have someone to capture those moments for us! Thanks Chris! Oh and check out his blog here.

So here is a preview of our day… (remember though, I didn’t take any of these pics!) This post is pretty picture heavy though.

All in all it was a great day… We were missing a few people though, so hopefully the next get-together we’ll have everyone… My mom, brother and his family, Kev’s brother and wife, Kev’s sister and family, etc.

Stayed tuned for a continuation post from the park… In case you couldn’t tell, our family was in coordinating outfits so we could get some much needed family pics. I’ve still got to sort through those and find my favorites.

Also, there will be a sneak peek from a pre-wedding dinner party I did Saturday night. It was my first event like this to photograph and I really enjoyed it! The food, decor, etc. were just amazing.

Drum Roll Please!

JC-Originals Photography website is getting a face-lift. Check out the changes as we improve it for you! Let me know what you like and don’t like. Maybe even suggestions on how to make it better or what you would like to see (well within reason).

Oh and big news… Little Man Caleb is on the move. Yep, you heard it here… He is a movin’ and a scootin’ now that he has realized he can crawl. Looks like we’ll be babyproofing this weekend. Pictures of him in action to come!
