Do you hear what I hear?

So the little man had surgery on Friday. He had to had tubes put in and he also had a tongue-tie repair done. The whole thing took less than 20 minutes! I think it took longer for him to wake up and come to recovery than it did for the entire surgery. When we got to recovery to see him, he gave us the biggest smile! The nurse even commented that when he woke up the first thing he did was give her a smile. So we gave him some juice since he hadn’t had anything since 2 am and he was a happy camper. It wasn’t long and we were on our way. Once we got home, he nursed and then took a 3 hour nap! I even got to sneak in a little nap. He woke up happy and has been good since then. Really only getting fussy when he’s tired or hungry!

Here he is before his surgery… Poor thing had no idea what was to come!

Then these were afterwards once we were home and he’d had his nap. Isn’t he the happiest thing you’d ever seen that had been through surgery that morning?! Sorry for the picture overload… He was just hamming it up for the camera! Oh and see his two new top teeth?

Disclaimer: These photos aren’t portfolio worthy at all! Several were taken in auto, have flashy pinlights, my carpet needed to be vacuumed-darn rug that sheds, etc., but oh well… some days we need a day off, huh?!

More girlies… **UPDATED** with collage (scroll down)

I recently got to photograph some kiddos that, let’s see how to explain this… Her kids went to the same daycare as mine did a year ago, but she’s also a friend of the session I did titled ~Fiesta~, but she actually was responding to my request for girlies… Make sense? Clear as mud, huh?!

Little ‘E’ was actually quite shy… She is my Haidyn’s age. It wasn’t until we were about done that I got her to crack some little smiles and actually look at me.

This was her brother. Mr. ‘E’. He had the cutest little smile.

Miss ‘E’ and Mr. ‘E’ also brought along their, hopefully I get this right… 2nd cousins. Meet Miss S and her baby sister, Miss K. Don’t you love their little outfits? Miss ‘E’ had one too that matched.

Yep and I know… no eye contact, but I just loved her little expression.

Don’t ask me what they’re doing… I don’t think their moms even knew… I just happened to catch it on the camera and we thought it was quite humorous! Don’t you? Maybe it was… ‘This little piggy went to market and this little piggy went, wah, wah, wah, all the way home’!

These next two pictures, I actually bumped up my ISO to get that old timey film grain look. I got the effect more on sister’s picture. These two might make a cute storyboard… Stay tuned and I’ll post it once I make one.

Okay… Here is the collage idea I came up with. It’s an 11×14 and will be printed on 2mm styrene and then clear coated for protection. Then you can frame it or display it on a plate rack or easel. Several of my clients are doing the latter. Oh and the black frame on the blog and logo are just for the blog, they won’t be there when printed!

Last, but not least… A little canvas idea. Brother’s shirt is actually a little wet… He fell in the water feature earlier in the session. He was fine, but we were wondering where he went and next thing we know, he popped up out of the water saying, ‘I almost fell in’. Nope, buddy, you did fall in! LOL!

Well, I could edit and post sneak peeks all evening, but I better turn in and get geared up to finish editing the session for the actual proofs. Thanks for letting me share!

Oh and Happy Father’s Day (in an hour) to all the dad’s out there!

I love the first picture of the girl in the flowers, but my favorite is the girls on the bench…that is awesome.

  2. Jill Cornelius

    Isn’t that one hilarious?!

  3. Amy

Those look good, Jill. I love the scenery.

  4. Shelly

Thanks Jill, these are great! We are so excited about the sneek preview! You are very sweet to label Miss E as “shy!” That is not exactly what I was calling it!

  5. Jill Cornelius

Thank you everyone! I had fun at this hidden little treasure of a photo location…

Not even 10 mos. yet…

The boy isn’t even 10 months yet (in a week) and he is everywhere! I can’t imagine what life with him will be as a toddler… and I thought my girls were active.

Let’s just break it down to what he’s done today…

  • pull all the shoes off the bottom two racks in my closet
  • take most the books off the bottom shelf of the bookshelf
  • emptied my bathroom cabinets (under the sink)
  • pulled everything off my nightstand
  • taken the play clothes out of the girls’ dresser
  • tried to unfold the towels I folded
  • gotten under the desk and tried to play with wires
  • almost forgot… learned how to flush the toilet

Gosh, I we haven’t even really been in the kitchen… Normally, in there he empties the pantry (when someone has left it open), empties the cabinet under the sink, and pulled all the pots and pans out.

Whew… I’m tired just posting that and my day isn’t over yet! Oh and forgot to mention that he tried to get the cat food while I was doing the laundry…

No pics uploaded yet to document, but I’ll try to add some later. As I’m typing this, he’s hanging on my leg since he’s done destroying the bathroom.

Better go!

Girl! You NEED to baby proof the house! 🙂 Although some of the things you mentioned can’t be baby proofed. Kevin was a very active baby – maybe that is where he gets it from.

  2. Jill Cornelius

That’s my guess… It’s all Kevin’s fault! LOL! We found the baby cabinet latches, but they’re not the ‘good’ kind so we’ve got to go get more. Kev’s in no hurry though since he’s not the one here all day. 🙂

  3. The Copeland Family

Let me just say that boys and girls are SO DIFFERENT, that I have been journaling for a year now about how different Faith and Jax are in EVERY way possible…I think it will be funny one day to pull out the journal when they are married with their own kids 🙂

  4. Kimberly

oh wow, he is VERY busy! definitely have your hands full with him all over the place…. 🙂

  5. Two Sisters

Wow, Caleb! Will you teach me how to flush the toilet…that sounds like fun:).

    Your friend,

The ‘B’ Twins and Their Brothers!

I had the awesome pleasure of photographing this family this past weekend. They were responding to my request for little girlies. Well, not only did I get one, but TWO! Twins! How fun! They have just begun to walk and at times they didn’t want to be tied down for pictures. Watching this family gave me a glimpse of what my sister-in-law has to look forward to (just add one more baby)… Watch out, Amy! These girlies were cuties, but oh so ready to go, go, go!

Here are a few of my favorites from the session…

I thought this picture was just a fun one… It really captures their personality from what I saw during our session… I really enjoyed meeting your family! I’ve got lots more to edit, so I’ll let you know when they’re ready for viewing…

WOW! Those turned out better than I had anticipated. I am glad that you caught some shots in between all the craziness!! 🙂 Even though all of them are not looking in the one of the 4 of them, I like it because you are right, it does capture their personalities. Cute! Thanks for being so patient!!!

  2. Amy

Maybe I will get more in shape when my three are running like this because I will be chasing them everywhere!

Which is harder, trying to keep infants happy and not crying or trying to capture a shot before busy toddlers start running off? Just curious if the picture-taking process gets better.

Those are cute! You did a good job.

Mr. C’s Short & Sweet Session

Mr. C’s mom is a long time friend of mine and asked me to come duplicate a pose she had of Mr. C’s older sister when she was his age. So here is a sneak peek of the images I came up with. I used two different methods for the black and whites so that Mr. C’s mom can decide which one is closer to the image she’s trying to re-create.

It’s probably a little hard to tell, but these are actually 4 different poses using two different methods to create the black and white.

Let me know your favorites!

I think number 1 is my favorite; however in number 4 he is looking at the camera which I like more, but I think his hand takes away from the main idea of the photo which would be his face and the hands. As always excellent pictures.

K Bar N

Many, many years ago our family went to the State Fair. And while there, we had this plaque made to hang over our gate at my parents’ house. It no longer hangs, but sits on the ground near the gate. It’s a little worn from all the years. We never had more than 2 horses, but we still thought it would be neat to name our little place.

Well, the other night, I went to my parents’ house for dinner and found it by the gate.

The view across the street at my parents’ house is quite nice too… Usually it’s maize, but this year it’s corn growing. Supposedly, the crop growers are getting more for corn due to the fuel potential.

Just a little snap of the boy in his John Deere shirt… Kind of went along with the theme of the evening. Plus his eyes were so blue that night.

Many people wouldn’t know it, but I have a horse. She is 25 years old and I’ve had her since she was 2. She lives with my parents and her name is King’s Red Frosty because her red coat is frosted with white hair, but we call her Frosty. I had another horse, but he passed while I was pregnant with Haidyn. His name was Frisky… I can’t remember his registered name for the life of me. I’ll have to find a scanned picture of him to share later.

I have to say, for her age, she still looks pretty good.

Look at her eyes… It’s almost like she has a story to tell from all the things she has seen in her years.

This picture is pretty funny… My dad let her into the other pasture since the grass had grown up pretty well and she was checking it out. I guess she smelled something quite strange!
So that was a little bit of our day at K Bar N! I’ll have to take some pics of the dogs the next time I’m out there. I went a little horse crazy taking pictures of Frosty. I hadn’t photographed her in years and this past Thanksgiving we almost lost her to colic. We don’t know how many years she has left in her, but hopefully it’s many more!

Frosty is beautiful!!!!!!! My dream (and still a dream) was to own a horse. I always wanted a horse instead of a car when I was 15, but my parents told me that I couldn’t ride a horse to school. I love horses – they are beautiful animals. I love riding on them and that feeling of freedom. When I was in Montana for a summer I stayed at a few homes that summer that owned horses. I always rode in the evenings when we had the horses around to be alone and have down time. I remember one night it was me and 2 others and we took the horses up a mountain to watch the sunset – what a site. 🙂 Thanks for letting me share some great memories!!! 🙂

  2. Two Sisters

Beautiful pictures! AC had fun playing with Caleb on Saturday:)!

  3. Jill Cornelius

Thank you, Kim! I love to ride and can’t believe I haven’t ridden in almost 10 years. I hope to have another young horse one day and get back into riding. Horses were my world way back when… I can’t believe I ever lost touch with them. Just busy with everyday life. Taking these pics really brought back those memories and made me want to throw a saddle on her and take off like we used to!

Thank you, Jana! I really enjoyed just taking these snaps the other night without any expectations. Caleb had fun too! We need to hold ourselves to some playdates like we were talking about!

  4. The Farns

Looks like a fun day. I love taking pictures of animals and all of their amazing detail.

Hey, we have something else in common! I, too, was major horse-obsessed when I was younger. I took riding lessons and did have my own horse, but we sold him when I became more interested in driving a car. At any rate, I am still a big horse lover. She does look good for 25 years and I know that is getting on up there. I think horses are probably the most beautiful animals out there, followed closely by some dogs, and I think it would be so fun to photograph one! She looks so sweet!

  6. Jill Cornelius

Julie–definitely a small world as we reveal more and more things that we have in common. I still think it’s funny that we are both so excited that Taco Cabana is coming to Rockwall… I thought most would think I was crazy liking that place!

But, yes… I lived and breathed horses when I was younger. There is actually something ‘horse-related’ in practically every room in my house!

Exposure…

Nope, not the kind intended for use with your camera… The ‘get yourself out there’ kind. I’ve been taking pictures as JC-Originals for a little over 3 years now, but now that I’m not working out of the home I’ve been able to concentrate on it a lot more than before. Well, as much concentration I can get with 3 little ones underfoot. With that in mind, I finally decided to create a business card. Well, I had it printed and they came in tonight. They look so good! I had them UV-Coated so they will last longer and not scratch with the black background. I’m so excited to pass them out… So don’t forget to ask me for one (or a few) to pass out!

Here is the front…
And the back…

I know… the back is sideways… I did it like that on purpose… Just to be different. So the front is horizontal and the back is vertical. A big thank you to the ones of you that let me use your images for my ‘first’ business card.

    Hi Jill,

I loved looking at all of your photos. You are really good for only 3 years of experience. I have a sony digital camera with only 7 mp. I have been looking to get a new camera because I have been wanting to do pet photography for a long time. I do pretty good with pets and I have been told I have a talent for it. I just cant get a good quality photo out of them. How did you learn all the techniques, ect.? Did you learn on your own or take classes?

Any suggestions on camera brands ect?

Your kids are beautiful! I told Amy I hope you will by my wedding photographer next year.

Best of luck with you and your business.

    Tycha…

Thank you for your sweet compliments. Everything I know is from experience and reading… so pretty much on my own. I would love to take classes, but with 3 kiddos underfoot, it hasn’t been possible.

I shoot Nikon, but it’s just a personal preference.

Congrats on getting married soon! I haven’t ventured into wedding photography, but who knows, I might one day!
